Original Vaniyambadi Restaurant

The flagship — where it all began in 1975.

About this location

Vaniyambadi, in detail

The Original Vaniyambadi Restaurant is the soul of AHMEDIA. Founded in 1975 by Janab Ahmed Ali, it began as a small eighteen-seat eatery serving the town’s leather artisans and travellers on the Bangalore–Madras route. Today it seats two hundred and twenty guests across two heritage halls, yet the kitchen still grinds every spice by hand and cooks every biryani over open charcoal — exactly as it did on day one.

What our guests say

I have eaten here for nearly thirty years. The biryani tastes exactly the way it did when my father first brought me. That consistency is a kind of love.

The Original Vaniyambadi is a living museum of South Indian Mughlai cooking. The charcoal aroma alone is worth the pilgrimage.
